GoAir has announced flights to Kannur in Kerala from 4 South Indian cities- Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Chennai
Calicut Airport, roughly 100 kms from Kannur is an existing operational airport with few daily flights- will the new Kannur airport cannibalize Calicut? Will there be enough demand for both airports? Only time will tell. What do you think?
Airlines often announce flights but withdraw after few months if load factor is not good enough- needs to be seen how popular/supportive Kannur will be, to keep and grow demand so that airlines don't have to think of cancelling the flights.
Kannur airport became operational very recently and is 4th international airport in Kerala.
Kannur is located half way between Kochi and Mangaluru. so flying direct to Kannur would be convenient if your plan is to explore nearby areas. However do note that Kannur airport is some 30 kms from city.
