Fly Chennai-Colombo on Indigo for INR 3700 one way
Indigo is starting Chennai Colombo flights from 20th Jan 2018.
One way fares are available for about Rs 3700 (INR 3500+ 200 convenience fee)
Return ticket is bit expensive at INR 5500 approx. So for return you can try your luck on other carriers like Srilankan or spicejet for possible low fares or book on Indigo itself.
Beware of high cancellation fees of late. Not worth booking unless you're fairly sure of traveling.
You can also club Srilanka and Maldives in one trip if time and budget permits. Srilanka tourist visa costs about 25 USD per person. It is possible to manage a 3-4 day trip in a budget of about 20-25000 INR everything inclusive.
